Practicing enlightened environmentalism.
Enlightened environmentalism is not a start-to-finish race. It’s the ongoing utilization of
the most environmentally sound practices, technology and mindset in the industry today.
At Quad/Graphics, we’ve proven our commitment by upping the ante on ourselves every chance we get. That includes developing new manufacturing processes and materials, testing new equipment and making one another aware of the difference each of us can make.
- Since retrofitting all of our plants with energy-efficient lighting, we've reduced
electricity usage by 6% and prevented the emission of 28,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually
(the equivalent of planting 6,903 trees or removing 5,328 cars from the roads).
- We use auxiliary power units to heat and cool the cabs of all our company trucks so drivers
don't have to keep the entire truck running while parked. The anti-idling units use just
1/8 the amount of fuel consumed by a truck engine when idling.
- Our offset pressrooms are using captured solvents from the drying process as a fuel
source for our dryers and pollution control units, reducing our dependence on natural gas.
- We've outfitted 4,000 PCs with power management software that automatically puts them into "sleep"
mode when not in use to save power and save tens of thousands of dollars in electricity costs each year.
