In the past few years alone, Quad/Graphics has been recognized for our environmentally conscious approach to doing business, including:

  • Being featured among the Top 5 Print Industry Brands associated with sustainability, according to a Graphic Arts Monthly survey published in May 2008.
  • The 2008 Business Friend of the Environment, awarded Wisconsin Environmental Working Group® (WEWG), an affiliate of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce. The award recognizes Quad/Graphics as a company dedicated to environmental stewardship, protecting the earth and keeping Wisconsin clean for generations to come.
  • 2007 Environmental Excellence Award from the U.S. EPA SmartWaySM Transport Partnership to recognize our outstanding achievements and leadership in reducing emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases from our freight transport activities. We received the award in 2006 as well.
  • The 2007 Going Green Recognition Award for how we integrate and balance economic growth, social equity and environmental management into how we do business. The award was sponsored by the Milwaukee office of Deloitte & Touche LLP as part of its annual Wisconsin 75 Privately Held Companies Awards Program.
  • The American Forest & Paper Association’s 2005 Business Leadership Recycling Award. The AF&PA deemed our paper recovery and recycling program the best in the large business category after considering the educational, innovative and cost-effective programs and partnerships we employ to ensure we’re capturing as much recyclable paper waste from our operations as possible and in the highest grades possible for recycling.
  • The 2005 Sustainable Standard-Setter by the Rainforest Alliance, a New York-based not-for-profit organization. Calling Quad/Graphics a leader in the emerging certified-sustainable sector, the Rainforest Alliance lauded the scope of our environmental initiatives, which go beyond just Forest Stewardship Council certification to include sophisticated recycling operations, best available emissions control technology, and extensive energy and fuel conservation programs.
  • The 2004 Clean Air Recognition Award from the Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air (WPCA) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The award was one of three issued to Wisconsin companies that are making a positive impact on the environment through improved air quality.
  • The 2000 Industrial Beautification Award from the City of West Allis, Wis., for transforming former brownfield site into a visual asset for the community. Through a series of changes, including planting native plants and grasses, we successfully meshed the building with its environment.
  • The first-ever West Virginia Business Environmental Leadership Award, which applauded the environmental stewardship demonstrated by our Martinsburg plant in 1999.
  • The 1999 National Air Filtration Association (NAFA) Clean Air Award, primarily because we were able to save time, money and labor by replacing inefficient filters on our Solvent Recovery System.
  • An honorable mention in the 1998 Direct Marketing Association's Robert Rodale Recycler of the Year Awards. The award was bestowed for outstanding efforts in all categories of workplace recycling. As a company, we recycled more than 97% of all paper, wood, plastic, metal, co-mingled containers, concrete and other solid waste generated, which totaled more than 218,000 tons recycled in 1998.
  • A state and national Climate Wise Partner Achievement Award for outstanding innovation, leadership, results and planning in reducing greenhouse gas emissions through cost-effective energy management.
  • The 1997 Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air Recognition Award. The award recognized our voluntary efforts to reduce ozone pollutants by reducing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released during the ink-jetting process, compressed work weeks, serving on the steering committee which looks into changes in automobile usage to help meet VOC emission reduction goals and sponsoring Milwaukee County bus routes to transport employees to and from work.
  • The State of Wisconsin Environmental Leadership Award in 1997. The award recognized Quad for outstanding environmental commitment, stewardship and achievements.
  • The Direct Marketing Association’s Robert Rodale/Recycling at Work Award, the highest environmental honor in the direct marketing industry, in both 1996 and 1997.
