Actively partnering to develop best practices.

Quad/Graphics actively partners with a number of national environmental agencies and advocacy groups to help ensure the sustainability of our world for generations to come. Some of our partners include:

Business for Social Responsibility

BSR is an organization of businesses that strives to improve the quality of life for current and future generations by helping companies understand, implement, and improve socially responsible practices as an integral part of business success. Today BSR has 1,400 member companies with combined revenues exceeding $1.8 trillion. Quad/Graphics was the first major printer to join BSR. We serve as a resource on environmental matters and exchange information with other businesses that are committed to progressive change. Quad has been a member of BSR since 1992. www.bsr.org

Climate Leaders

Climate Leaders is an EPA industry-government partnership that works with companies to develop long-term comprehensive climate change strategies. Partners set a corporate-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goal and inventory their emissions to measure progress. By reporting inventory data to the EPA, Partners create a lasting record of their accomplishments. Partners also identify themselves as corporate environmental leaders and strategically position themselves as climate change policy continues to unfold. Quad/Graphics was the first major printer to join Climate Leaders in 2006. www.epa.gov/climateleaders

Energy Star

In 1993, Quad became the first printer to join the U.S. EPA’s Energy Star Program. As a participant, we follow an accelerated schedule for retrofitting lighting fixtures with more efficient technology. Our Energy Star improvements annually conserve over 27.8 million-kilowatt hours, preventing emissions of nearly 28,000 tons of carbon dioxide. www.energystar.gov/

Forest Stewardship Council

Quad/Graphics has reinforced its environmental record with “chain-of-custody” certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international non-profit organization devoted to responsible management of the world’s forests. We are the first national commercial printer to receive chain-of-custody certification and join just a handful of printers that have earned it. Clients now may use the FSC’s trademarked “checkmark and tree” logo in magazines, catalogs and other materials printed on FSC-certified paper, letting subscribers and customers know the paper was made using wood pulp from a healthy, well-managed forest. www.fscus.org/

Remix

The National Recycling Coalition (NRC), International Paper Co., Time, Inc., have partnered with Quad/Graphics, Recycle America Alliance, FCR, Inc. and the Wisconsin Be SMART Coalition to increase magazine recycling in the metro Milwaukee area. The team, which includes local government agencies and private collectors/processors in the area, has been testing ways to significantly boost magazine recovery, including intensive consumer education.

SmartWay Transport Program

The SmartWaySM Transport Partnership is a voluntary collaboration between
U.S. EPA and the freight industry designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution. SmartWay Transport Partners lead the way towards a cleaner, more efficient transportation future by adopting fuel-saving strategies that increase profits and reduce emissions — a "win-win" opportunity for all. Quad/Graphics was the first major printer to join the SmartWay Transport Program and was awarded a leadership award in 2006. www.epa.gov/SmartwayLogistics/

WasteCap Wisconsin

WasteCap Wisconsin is a statewide, nonprofit organization that provides waste reduction and recycling assistance through business-to-business peer exchange. Waukesha(Wisconsin) Land Conservancy

Quad/Graphics is a member of the Waukesha Land Conservancy, which seeks to protect environmentally-significant areas in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, to ensure long-term preservation of the area’s natural beauty. Quad has been a member of the organization since 1994. The Waukesha Land Conservancy currently protects more than 495 acres valued at nearly $1.8 million. Our Environmental manager serves on the Board of Directors. www.waukeshalandconservancy.org

The Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air

The Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air (WPCA) program is a coalition of more than 260 businesses, community organizations, schools and government agencies committed to improving air quality through voluntary action. Leaders in Wisconsin founded the WPCA in 1996 when six counties in southeastern Wisconsin were recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as having one of the most severe ground-level ozone problems in the U.S. www.cleanairwisconsin.org/index.php
