Quad Earns Certifications From FSC, SFI and PEFCBuilding on its role as a leader in environmentally sound printing practices, Quad/Graphics now has certifications from the world's three leading forest management programs: the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
Quad/Graphics was the first national commercial printer to receive chain-of-custody certification from the FSC in 2004 and, now, with the SFI and PEFC certifications, Quad/Graphics vastly expands the pool of forest-certified paper suppliers from which its clients can choose.
“We are proud to receive these key certifications in all 10 of our core printing plants,” said Joel Quadracci, President & CEO of Quad/Graphics. “This achievement affirms our efforts to support internationally recognized, science-based standards for best practices in forest management. It also offers important benefits to our customers by opening the door to new, worldwide networks of forest-certified suppliers.”
FSC, SFI and PEFC are the world’s leading independent, non-profit, non-government organizations devoted to the responsible management of the world’s forests. To gain forestry certification from these groups, companies must submit to a rigorous third-party audit of purchasing practices and control systems.
Quad/Graphics successfully demonstrated its ability to meet these strict compliance requirements in multiple areas, including chain of custody – a measure to track wood through the supply chain, from a certified forest through the end-user of the certified product.
“There is a growing demand for chain-of-custody-certified paper and for finished goods that display the forest-certified logo,” Mr. Quadracci said. “More and more customers want the assurance that products were made from responsibly managed forests.”
By offering new procurement opportunities across an environmentally responsible, global supply chain, Quad/Graphics can meet both its business and social objectives.
“We believe that sound environmental leadership and strong business strategies can and should go hand in hand,” Mr. Quadracci said. “Partnering with the world’s leading forestry certification programs advances our efforts to meet the growing market demand for responsible stewardship of the world’s resources.”
